Michelle Obama will be the feature in the latest of Bluewater Productions’ comic book series called “Female Force.” The comic will follow First Lady Michelle Obama, the wife and best friend of the 44th President of the United States of America, from her youth on the South Side of Chicago through to the 2008 presidential campaign and election day. It is scheduled to be released April 29, 2009.
The Comic has been getting great recognition and press with interviews on major networks like CNN, Fox News and OK! Magazine. Having sold out in hours, Marvel’s edition of Spiderman and President Barak Obama comic (selling for as much as $125 per issue on eBay), this single edition of Michelle Obama is sure to be a big hit among collectors. The publisher of Bluewater Production says that the demand (pre-sales) has been very strong.
The Michelle Obama comic is for pre-order until the release date of April 29, 2009. So far they have pre-sold close to 30,000 copies. Because the publishing company is smaller than Marvel, it is a good chance they will print a small number of copies (1st print) and gauge the demand for future prints. The company printed 7,500 each of a Female Force version of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. They are conducting a second print for each version – due April 8, 2009.
Because it will be harder for all of the nation’s comic book retail stores to have a sufficient stock of this once-in-a-lifetime issue, it is expected to be heavily marketed online. I have seen pre-order sales starting as early as March on eBay.
Based on the pre-sales numbers, the Michelle Obama Comic will be in greater demand and may force a 1st printing of 100,000 copies.
