The Amazing Spiderman Offers a Winning Combination

Bringing the old Superman out of the closet and dusting him off is just what actors Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone seem to be doing with the new version, offering a completely different feel than the Spiderman movies of the last decade. A younger generation is coming to appreciate what was and is still becoming more prominently so a classic in the making. This movie isn’t just for the die-hard comic book fans it is one that will appeal to all types of movie goers.

With Stone in her first superhero movie debut, many are surprised to see a new side of her and have given her due credit for her versatility in acting. With her success in this film, she is sure to be gracing us with her presence in theaters much more frequently. Stone made her name when she appeared on the big screen as Olive Penderghast in the quirky romantic teen comedy Easy A, a modern adaptation of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s classic, The Scarlet Letter.  She will also be featured in the upcoming movie, Gangster Squad, opposite her co-star, Ryan Gosling.

As for Garfield, the young star had his first hit role in the movie The Social Network and continues on his winning streak. Garfield’s dreamy looks have gotten him this far, and his new performance in The Amazing Spiderman makes it clear his talent will do the rest.

With Spiderman: Turn Off the Dark holding the title as the most expensive Broadway production, it seems like the classic comic book is enjoying more popularity than ever and is inspiring a broad range of artists.  The question now is whether or not there will be yet another Spiderman movie in the making.

According to some sources, there is talk of a biracial Spiderman surfacing. Since the United States has willingly embraced their first African-American president, the idea of a biracial Spiderman is one that would be embraced now more than ever before.  It will be interesting to see if this becomes an actuality and in turn its success, as it veers from the original comic book.

People worldwide are rushing out to see this most recent incarnation of Spiderman, which will undoubtedly surpass last decade’s take on Spiderman and find a spot in the top grossing movies of all time, along with The Avengers, the second highest-grossing film of all time, and The Dark Knight, another comic book movie that wasn’t afraid to show a different side of the story.  With Stone, Garfield, Webb, and a nation that has gone crazy for all things comic book and fantasy, The Amazing Spiderman has an unbeatable combination.

Super Sci-Fi Thriller Delivers in Dredd 3D

2012 is definitely the year for comic book fans.  Following in the footsteps of films like The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man and The Dark Knight Rises is another comic book based film slated to open in the United States on September 21, 2012.

The sci-fi thriller, Dredd 3D features the comic book character Judge Dredd originally brought to life 35 years ago in the British comic book 2000 AD.  Dredd is one of the UK’s best known comic characters and ranked 35th in the Top 100 Comic Book Heroes by IGN in 2011.

Judge Dredd made his big screen debut in 1995 in a film directed by Danny Cannon, starring Sylvester Stalone as Judge Dredd. The film received negative reviews upon release and left several die-hard fans of the comic book character disappointed.

The latest film to portray the comic book hero, Dredd 3D won’t disappoint.  Written by Alex Garland and directed by Pete Travis, Dredd 3D stays true to the comic series and clearly understands what make Judge Dredd tick. Smart, focused and entertaining throughout, Dredd 3D is sure to please die-hard fans and welcome those unfamiliar with the series.

In Dredd 3D, the future of America is irradiated wasteland and contains a massive, violent city, Mega City One which graces the land from Boston to Washington DC. Violent criminals rule the streets with the only order coming from a handful of urban cops called “Judges.”  Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared judge of them all and is tasked to rid the city of a dangerous drug that is overtaking the residents of a high-rise, violent housing project.

Gritty, dark and visually impressive, the film features intense chase scenes and graphic violence earning the film an R rating.  A few elements of the film like the focus on the ghetto high rise instead of Mega City One may disappoint diehard fans of the comic strip. But there are elements where the film stays true. Like the comic strip, Karl Urban never takes off his mask.

Dredd 3D is a smart, yet intense sci-fi action film that is sure to appeal to Dredd fans and attract new ones in the process. Can’t wait to see the film? Watch the trailer now on Filmbuffet or join the movie discussion taking place in ‘The Buzz.”

Dredd 3D opens in theaters on September 21, 2012 and is rated R.  The run time is 95 minutes.

Watching Movies Online Some of the Best Comic Book Movies

Comic books, also called as graphic novels, are usually a bound collection of comic strips that tell a particular story or a set of stories. The stories take the form of a narrative placed in separate panels that represent individual scenes. These artworks contain dialogues that are placed typically in word balloons. The story may be humorous, or it may also deal with fantasy, adventure, and mystery. Meanwhile, comic book publication today is a multibillion-dollar industry. Famous comic book characters take center stage as more and more film adaptations of graphic novels are released by each year. Today, one may enjoy watching these great comic book/adventure films by surfing the Internet to watch free online movies.

The first comic books came out in 1933 as an advertising medium. Copies of newspaper comic strips and books were reprinted in 1935 and distributed to a larger number of people. On the other hand, comic books became a hit for the military troops stationed abroad. The soldiers use comics as a means of entertainment to briefly escape from all the harsh realities of wartime conditions.

During the 1960s, comic books with adventure themes became popular, especially among teenagers. In the late 20th century, Japanese comic books, more commonly known as manga, became widely popular in the western world. High school and college students say that manga gave a new breath of life to traditional comic strips and that their characters have more variations and appealing designs.

Furthermore, renowned movie review website recently released its list of the top three comic book movies of all time. Third on the list is Richard Donner’s Superman (1978). People say that this original Superman will always be the best in the franchise. Superman is about Clark Kent’s journey of becoming a superhero. Clark is actually from the planet Krypton and the only surviving member of his kind. Because of his unique genetic makeup, he gains superhuman abilities when exposed to the light of a yellow star.

Second on the list is Spider-Man 2. This sequel was released in 2004 and became an instant hit worldwide. Peter Parker showed here that even though he already established himself as New York’s best defender, he still had a hard time paying his monthly bills and allotting enough time for work and his loved ones. Peter’s struggle with balancing his duties as a superhero and dealing with his personal life’s day-to-day problems made this comic book film one of the most engaging movies in recent cinematic memory.

Topping the list is Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight which was released in 2008. It was a comic book film that was full of suspense and tragedy, coupled with phenomenal special effects and costume designs. The dark plot of the movie resonates among the audience. The movie’s actions seem to pull the viewers into the screen. The late Heath Ledger gave an exceptional acting performance which made him won the 2009 Oscar for Best Actor in a Supporting Role.
